ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
The Loch Gallery proudly presents "ReEncounter", -Cascadian Seduction- an exhibition of new paintings by W. David Ward. "Twenty-eight years after my artistic journey began, I was drawn back to an ancient village site in the heart of Haida Gwaii, where something took a hold of me once – possessed me – and set my life on a very different path. Emily Carr described a spirit felt so intensely, it draws us like a magnet, then passes through us, and our work – 'particles', 'perpetually moving'. The creative energy here is tangible; and on occasion, it is physically manifest. I feel now I understand what our Haida friends refer to when they speak so casually of the supernatural beings. I have been haunted ever since by the spirit of this place – the Genius Loci – and a moment of inspiration, an epiphany in fact, inspired by a forgotten totem pole, hidden in the forest shadows.

That creative spirit does have the 'power to call others' as Carr suggested it would, and the 2016 'ReEncounter' expedition was an expression of this. The short film, Eyes Of Society, documents our collaborative project – a Quest, of sorts, to relocate the elusive Killer Whale / Thunderbird Memorial pole – and now I begin the next chapter of this story, and a series of new works.

Opening Saturday, June 24th, 2017
10:00am - 5:00pm
16 Hazelton Ave

W. David Ward will be present 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
