About the Exhibition:

The Loch Gallery is pleased to show a selection of paintings by a unique group of our contemporary artists. Featuring works by DP Brown, Tony Luciani, David Ward, John Hansen, and a grouping of new oils by Roberto Rosenman, this exhibition shows the pluralism and magic of realism today.

DP Brown is one of Canada's foremost painters working in the egg tempera medium. He is masterful in exploring the inhabited landscape in works like "A Private Moment".

John Hansen is another respected figurative painter whose theoretically-grounded method expresses his reflections on life. Initially working from the imagination, Hansen finds his direction and then gathers reference materials by using a camera to record the figure caught in the moment between reflection and action.

After its showing at the Art Gallery of Calgary, Tony Luciani's "Madonna and Mannequin" will be exhibited in our group show. This painting was selected as a finalist in the Kingston Portrait Prize 2013, Canada's foremost portrait competition.

W. David Ward's acrylic painting "Cashtal yn Ard" is inspired by the artist's fond memories of the Isle of Man. Cashtal yn Ard (Castle of the Heights) is the largest Neolithic tomb in the British Isles. Ward's painted dedication to the ancient site is both tranquil and dramatic with its contrast of light and shadow.

We will also feature 7 new still lifes by Roberto Rosenman. Always incorporating strong symbolism and narrative in his work, Rosenman overloads the insignificant with significance. Therein lies the magical and metaphysical qualities of Rosenman's everyday objects.

Please note that all works are subject to pre-sale as the paintings have now arrived in the gallery and are ready for viewing. If you have an interest in any of the paintings listed in the exhibition, please let us know at your earliest convenience.

With kindest regards,
Alan Loch
