About the Exhibition:

Loch Gallery is delighted to show a series of recent paintings from Philip Craig's travels in Provence. The rich cultural history and magical light of the region have enchanted many artists through the ages. Craig found the inspiration for these new canvases in the quaint village of Crillon le Brave. The paintings invite the viewer to stroll through paths of blooming lavender or seek refuge from the sun in a shaded cafe. In works like "Sunny Entrance" and "Garden Steps" soft muted colours, golden light and reduced abstracted forms create a fresh and vibrant immediacy. This element of connection, accompanied Craig's richly expressive brushwork, creates a desire to live with his paintings.

Please note that all works are subject to pre-sale as the paintings have now arrived in the gallery and are ready for viewing. If you have an interest in any of the paintings listed in the exhibition, please let us know at your earliest convenience.

With kindest regards,

Alan Loch

About Philip Craig:

Philip Craig’s continual search for new subject matter and the wish to develop his technical abilities pushed the artist first to visit England, then France, Italy, Morocco and India – all travels that not only enriched his palette but also gave him a deeper appreciation of light. Through the years, Craig’s extensive exploration of the Canadian landscape has led to a strong desire to imprint his vision of his own country.

Philip has an extraordinary ability to connect with the viewer as he paints ordinary people engaged in ordinary activities – solitary figures reading, a tranquil moment in a canoe on a still lake, sharing a conversation with friends, the viewer wants to be there. If there is only a landscape or an interior, the viewer anticipates what is going to happen. This element of connection, accompanied by the beauty of colour, light and richly expressive brushwork creates a desire to live with his paintings.

Philip Craig’s paintings are collected in Canada, the US, England and around the world. A renowned philanthropist, Philip donates his work in support of worthy causes and institutions. His generosity will ensure a lasting creative legacy.
