Walter Joseph (W.J.) Phillips - Summer Idyll

Summer Idyll by Walter Joseph (W.J.) Phillips
Summer Idyll - Walter Joseph (W.J.) Phillips
18 x 12 in

This print was completed in July of 1926. Not only is it one of his largest prints he ever created - it required the cutting of more than twelve different blocks, and bears witness to Phillips' confidence and mastery of the colour woodcut medium. Phillips admitted to having made two attempts at it. The first attempt was scrapped in total since he was not completely satisfied with the registration. The second attempt is one of his greatest technical achievements in the medium.
