P.J. Crook

P.J Crook was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1945 where she still lives today. Graduating from Gloucestershire College of Art in 1965, Crook has since had numerous group and solo shows in London, New York, Paris and now Toronto. Crook’s paintings are immediately recognizable by their painted frames and images that spill out from the canvas  and onto the frames, pulling the viewer into Crook’s fantasy world. Working from her memories and subconscious, Crook never plans her pictures and starts with a little idea of which will ultimately evolve into the finished product. Within the everyday scenes lies an undercurrent of the otherworldly, lending a dreamlike and Surrealist sensibility to this acclaimed artist's work.
