INTERPRETIVE REALISM: THE ART OF TONY LUCIANI, FEBRUARY 4 -18, 2017 IN TORONTO

Loch Gallery is delighted to feature a selection of paintings by the award winning Durham-based artist Tony Luciani.  This exhibition celebrates the embodiment of rural Ontario, a subject that brings Luciani a great source of inspiration. Luciani's work transcends the boundaries of realism and representation. Rather than achieving a full, realistic likeness, Luciani captures the feeling he gets from a mental visualization of his subject. He imagines his subject rather than copying it. Subject matter is less important than mood and feeling, so that each painting, in a sense, becomes a self-portrait. "I want the viewer to be drawn into the work, to be captured by the detail, and step closer to discover what is in it," says Luciani. "At the same time, however, I hope people will look beyond that aspect to find a deeper, more significant meaning."
