PATRICK AMIOT: THREE DECADES, MAY 5 - 19, 2018, IN TORONTO

Loch Gallery is delighted to present a special exhibition of Patrick Amiot sculptures in honour of the artist’s 30th anniversary of gallery representation in Toronto. The “urban folk artist” returns to his roots with a collection of clay works alongside his recycled junk metal sculptures. Amiot links the Quebec 19th and early 20th century genre tradition to a contemporary pop/ folk statement. His partner, Brigitte Laurent, completes the sculptures with her fine brushwork and sophisticated sense of colour.

Over the past two decades, Amiot has gained international notoriety for his unique large-scale sculptures made entirely from recycled materials. Sourcing materials that are destined for the dump or donated by local companies or community members, Amiot gives these objects new life as works of art.

Join us on Saturday, May 5th from 2-4pm for the opening reception of “THREE DECADES" and celebrate with us 30 years of representing Patrick Amiot.

“The whole purpose of my work is to glorify these objects, because they have their own spirit. When a hubcap has traveled on a truck for millions of miles, and has seen the prairies in the winter and the hot summer asphalt, when it’s done traveling with that truck and finds itself in the scrap yard and I find it, I kind of like to use that. This hubcap, or whatever piece of metal, from the day it was manufactured until now, has an important history. And I like to think the spirit of all these things lived incredible lives. If they could talk to you, they could tell amazing stories. That’s something I don’t want to hide.”
