One of the country’s most successful and well-known galleries is planning to open in Calgary this weekend. Calgary Herald. Calgary AB. June 29, 2006 by David Parker Loch Gallery has been offering contemporary art in Winnipeg for the past 35 years. Five years ago it opened a gallery in the Yorkville district of Toronto where it enjoys 80 percent of its business. Owner David Loch has been getting a lot of ink lately as the principal adviser and buyer of art for recently passed away Kenneth Thomson: he bought for him for the past 20 years and considered him a close friend. The Toronto gallery is run by eldest son Alan; his brother Ian, who moved her with his family just two weeks ago, will manage the Calgary outlet. Located in 2,300 square feet at 1516 4th Street SW, its inventory will also feature historic Canadian painters and a strong stable of contemporary Canadian and European impressionists. Ian is planning his first exhibition here of major historical painters at a formal grand opening in October followed by another introducing contemporary artists that Loch represents. Quality and being able to offer the finest art has always been a focus. Loch Gallery has sold many Group of Seven, Emily Carr and other well-known Canadians’ works as well as European masters like Van Gogh and Renoir. I’m looking forward to seeing what gems it displays in Calgary. |
