Biography

Richard Savoie was born on June 13, 1959 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Fifth in a family of nine he grew up along the shore of the Atlantic. A few years later, his family settled in Saguenay Lac St.Jean. The ocean and the majestic scenery of the Saquenay region still fascinate and inspire him today. When his mom realized that he had the gift for art, she quickly encouraged him to draw and paint. It was not until the end of secondary studies at Laval and Ste. Therese that we begin to see the first pastel landscapes. Strongly influenced by the watercolours of M.A. Fortin and with encouragement from collector Fernand Thibault and painter and art instructor Gabrielle Messier, Richard decided to put his carrier in motion as a pastellist. His work can be found in private and corporate collections across the country.
