Biography

Pauline T. Paquin was born in Ste-Monique, P.Q. The ninth child of a family of 12, she was raised on a farm in rural Quebec. As a young woman she chose nursing as her career. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to the country and met a neighbor who was a professional artist. Under his guidance, an early interest in painting flowered into a full-time career as a painter. She quickly developed her own distinctive style, concentrating on the portrayal of children in their everyday activities. She uses bright colors and rapid brush strokes in a bold style. She paints children without faces, creating personality in her subjects with their fanciful clothing, their movement and gesture. The intentional omission of faces allows the viewer to project their own memories into the picture, thus participating in the work in a personal way. Pauline has had many successful exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and New York. Critics and the public alike are unanimous in their praise for the vibrancy, spontaneity and honesty of her paintings.
