Biography
A University of Manitoba Gold Medalist from the School of Art, Bette Woodland is widely known as a painter and printmaker. Working in the tradition of the Spanish painter, Sorolla, Woodland’s practice is concerned primarily with the effects of light on both the figure and the landscape. Working from visual field notes and photographs, she constructs her paintings around particular qualities of light and shade to create intensely dramatic works. These paintings condense moments of being into something both familiar and timeless.Featured Work
