Biography

Robin Sheard-Nyikos was born in Toronto in 1957. She studied at the Toronto School of Art in 1974 followed by the Ontario College of Art and Design, graduating in 1978 followed by art studies in Florence, Italy in 1979. Sheard-Nyikos’ seven years of travels in Europe including France, Mallorca, England and the Canary Islands combined with her childhood trips to the rugged, Georgian Bay has provided inspiration for her work.

Painting landscapes, seascapes, figurative subjects and portraits in pastels and oils with close attention to light and colour is the basis of her approach. Sheard-Nyikos translates the idyllic summers of her youth as scenes of picnics, sunlight, glistening water and playful dogs. Starting from loose sketches rendered with a fluid stokes, the artist paints her definitive works realistically with higher finish. During the winter months, she moves indoors and paints vivid and detailed still-lifes of fruit, flowers and household objects.

Her work can be found in public and private collections in Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, England, Spain and Holland. Presently, the artist resides in Collingwood, Ontario.
