Biography

Born in Quebec, Paul-Emile Borduas began as a decorator, working under Ozias Leduc. He then studied in Paris and began to experiment with the Surrealist technique of automatism, joining the group Les Automatistes of which Jean-Paul Riopelle was also a member. From 1953 to 1955, Borduas lived in Paris where he eventually died of a heart attack.
