Biography
Sheila McGraw is an award-winning artist whose career spans over 30 years.
For two decades she focused on illustration creating packaging art, national advertising, fashion and editorial illustration. 1n 1986, her career segued into illustrating and writing 13 bestselling children’s picture and craft books. Sheila is a member of The Portrait Society of America, The National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society, The Art League of Houston, and The Arts Alliance Centre at Clear Lake. She is also an associate member of Women Artists of the West. Her work has been exhibited widely, can be found in private collections and on permanent display in public collections.
Besides being an internationally recognized illustrator of childrens' books, McGraw is a painter of portraits and still lifes. Working on a commission basis, McGraw approaches each individual sitter in her portraits with a vision unique to their character. As an artist, she brings a unique versatility to her career which boasts an internationally recognized reputation as a commercial illustrator and a distinguished body of work as a fine artist.
Her compositions reflect the spirit and personality of its subject while conveying her technical skill and stylistic treatment. In both her illustrations and painting, McGraw’s artistic passion, empathy, and sense of humour resonate.
