Biography
Klaas Hart was born of Dutch descendants in Toronto in 1969.The artist studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design graduating in 1993 and completed his formal training in 2000 at the Atelier of Henk Helmantel in the Netherlands. This apprenticeship with a world-renowned artist allowed Hart to expand his painterly technique.
Back in Canada, the artist began exhibiting in group shows in both Toronto and Amsterdam, and since 2001 has had solo exhibitions in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006.
Klaas states that through my painting, “I want to embrace the essence of visual language in my technique while using colour to express the deeper meaning of my subjects and to reflect the world around me.” With an initial focus on still life paintings, the artist is gradually expanding his visual expression to include the figure and landscape.
Success is evident in the response to Hart's work which is represented in major collections in Canada, the US, the UK, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands and Pakistan.
